Statement on Speaker Pelosi and the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act

UAA is glad to announce that we have begun our advocacy efforts for these upcoming months as we connect with our Congressional Representatives on the urgent need of passing the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (H. R. 1155). We call upon Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the House of Representatives to come together and pass this act as soon as possible. This legislation is substantial for the Uyghur American community and Uyghurs everywhere as it addresses the gross atrocities of forced labor in the Uyghur region while also preventing any goods made with Uyghur labor from entering the United States. Furthermore, we must not allow anyone in the United States to unknowingly consume goods with forced labor.

As we provide support for the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in our talks with Representatives, we are also providing an avenue for others to show their support by reaching out to Speaker Nancy Pelosi online. We urge the public to navigate to https://www.speaker.gov/contact and send the message below with your name.

My name is [Enter Name Here] and I want to ask Speaker Pelosi about the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, HR 1155.

As the Holidays are coming, it is important that Congress pass this bill so Americans will not unknowingly buy products made with forced labor and be complicit with ongoing Uyghur genocide.

I would like to ask Speaker Pelosi to put this bill for vote in the House. The Senate already passed this bill in July, and the House passed this bill with more than 400 votes in the last Congress.

I urge passage of this bill as soon as possible.

Thank you.
